Here are five of our favourite Australian houses that have adapted this classic, laidback look to create a dream Hamptons-inspired home.

NEW HOME – BULIMBA, QLD

From the moment it comes into view, it’s clear that this home been inspired by classic Hamptons style. The exterior of the triple-gabled, two-storey house, located in Brisbane’s inner east, sets the tone with its use of Linea™ weatherboard cladding. Painted in a neutral palette, trims in crisp white and charcoal offset grey weatherboard.

The family home, a collaboration between Big House Little House and JH Dixon Builders, contrasts rather than clashes with the existing streetscape, marrying traditional features with sub-tropical style. A unified indoor-outdoor space that includes oversized bi-fold doors and a covered entertainment deck completes the Hamptons-inspired design.

KNOCK-DOWN-REBUILD – GRACEVILLE, QLD

This Hamptons-meets-Queenslander is all about lifestyle. Designed by Evermore as a knock-down-and-rebuild project, the home features an open plan layout that flows seamlessly from the living room to the outdoor area. Here, a pool and deck provide the perfect space for both relaxation and entertaining.

The owners desired a character-filled home that looked as though it had been there for many years. By using Linea weatherboards to clad the exterior, they achieved a timeless, elegant look that complemented the area they live in.

RESORT-STYLE LIVING – SYDNEY, NSW

Functional and family-friendly were key requirements for a Northshore couple during their build, and the end result was a slice of Hamptons paradise that everyone can enjoy. Indoor-outdoor living was a huge factor for the couple, who, coming from Queensland, had to adjust their vision of stilts and a sweeping verandah for something more suited to a small Sydney block.

Employing high ceilings, exposed beams and a large deck, they were able to create the look and feel of a Hamptons home with minimal space. Strong coastal winds made this home an ideal candidate for Linea weatherboards, which lent the perfect Hamptons look to the exterior while resisting damage from moisture and humidity.

A SLICE OF HAMPTONS PARADISE – MT KEMBLA, NSW

After deciding to build their dream Hamptons-inspired on the NSW South Coast rather than buy an existing house, this couple worked with Lime Building Group to marry the practicalities of a family home with the timeless look of the Hamptons. Classic style combined with a practical layout means that it makes the most of all that Hamptons design has to offer.

From the cupola on the roof to the large windows, everything about this home fits the bill for understated Hamptons elegance. Starting from scratch allowed the owners to incorporate features such as the built-in gate, cobbled driveway and arbour across the front of the garage to give the impression of a grand, old home with traditional Hamptons style.

A DESIGNER’S DREAM – MINDARIE, WA

The coastal home of Natalee Bowen of Indah Island is quintessentially Hamptons. Outside, grey weatherboard cladding and white mouldings take centre stage from the street, topped with traditional shingles and framed with a lush, manicured garden. Out the back, a pool, deck and outdoor entertaining area continue the laidback luxe theme.

Inside, natural fibres and indoor greenery – along with the perfect coastal-inspired palette of whites, creams and light greys – complete the seamless transition between outdoor/indoor living. By carefully considering ways to maximise natural light at the start of the build, Natalee was able to ensure the home feels bright and spacious – an important element of Hamptons style.
